Performing as a Pianist in South Wales
My name is Eugene Portman and one of my favourite places to perform as a pianist is South Wales. The region is popular for hosting events and the main reason for this is the fantastic choice of venues. Because, there are a lot of weddings and events in the area, musicians are in great demand. In fact, I feel very lucky in that I play the piano in Wales on such a regular basis. Furthermore, It isn’t uncommon for me to do several events in the area every month.
More and more I am called upon to perform as a solo classical pianist in the South Wales area, and I have to say that it is something I really do enjoy. Most of the time this consists of me playing a few piano pieces for a ceremony, but occasionally I am asked to provide one to two hours of classical music.
I have provided music for product launches, private parties, corporate events, anniversaries, and music festivals. However, I provide music for more weddings than any other type of event. Because of my involvement in weddings, I have to be versatile. To explain, I have to be able to play many genres of music so that I can play different styles for the various parts of the day. For example, I am often asked for classical music during the ceremony and up-tempo jazz for the drinks reception. This can be followed a mixture of rock ballads, mellow jazz, and blues for the wedding breakfast. Fortunately, I do play many styles of music including pop, jazz, swing, blues, Latin, rock, and even sing-along.
As already mentioned I can play piano music form many genres, but it is music from the jazz and swing era that I specialise in. My style of jazz is easy to listen to and consists of tunes that we all know and love. My influences are wide and varied, but tend to consist of the musicians who play an older style of jazz. Examples are pianists such as Erroll Garner, Hank Jones, Dudley Moore, George Shearing, and Oscar Peterson.
My Work as a Sing-along Pianist in South Wales
There has been a recent trend to book me as a singalong pianist in Wales for sing-along events. Moreover, this is something that I really enjoy and I provide all song-sheets and I dress like a traditional pub pianist. The latter consists of a Bowler hat, hobnail boots, Albert watch chain, neckerchief, waistcoat, grandad shirt, etc.
I perform for many themed events and I am willing to create a song sheet to match the theme of your event. Also, I have played for many Welsh themed parties and it isn’t a problem to play music that is appropriate.
Also, please don’t just stay on this page. The rest of the site contains loads of different styles of piano music and does explain the different services that I can offer.
