Performing as a Pianist in Manchester
My name is Eugene Portman and my work as a pianist in the Manchester area seems to be on the increase. Moreover, this is really good for me as I love visiting the venues in the area. Anyone organising an event or wedding in the area could easily be overwhelmed by the number an variety of venues available. To clarify, these venues range from city pubs, art galleries, and museums to luxury hotels and conference centres.
I play the piano for many events in Manchester, but weddings are my main reason for visiting the area. I have many fond memories of the weddings and events I have performed at in the region.
A lot of the time I am often booked in Manchester as a classical pianist and this can range from a few pieces for a ceremony to a complete evening. However, playing classical music isn’t enough if I am to be successful at providing music for weddings.
Playing the piano for weddings in the Manchester region demands versatility and I have to be able to play many different styles of music. To explain, it isn’t uncommon for me to be requested to play a different style of music for each part of the day. For example, classical music is very often requested for ceremonies, while jazz is becoming more and more popular for drinks receptions. Also, music that is suitable for a wedding breakfast wouldn’t necessarily be suitable for an evening reception.
Besides classical music, I can play jazz, swing, ragtime, sing-a-long, Latin, rock, pop, and sing-along. Being versatile also makes my piano music suitable for all kinds of events such as private parties and corporate events.
Manchester has a very active jazz scene and my work as a jazz pianist has really benefitted from this. Out of all the styles I play, I have to say that my specialty is music from the jazz and swing era. In fact, I have always loved listening to the music of Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, and other artists of that period. My piano style has developed over the years by listening to pianists such as Oscar Peterson, Ralph Sharon, George Shearing, and Erroll Garner.
My Work as a Sing-along Pianist in Manchester
A recent trend has led to me being booked as a sing-along pianist in Manchester’s pubs and clubs. Furthermore, this has become something I really enjoy and I really do have a great time doing them. I can provide all the song sheets and I dress like an old fashioned Cockney pianist. Further to this, I can also provide a digital piano so that all that you have to provide is some hearty voices.
Also, please don’t just stay on this page. The rest of the site contains loads of different styles of piano music and does explain the different services that I can offer.
