Performing as a Pianist in Berkshire
My name is Eugene Portman and I work frequently in the Berkshire area as a pianist. As a matter of fact, this is really handy for me as I live a mere stone’s throw from the area and it doesn’t take me long to travel there. Like all the Home counties Berkshire is a popular county for weddings and this is where most of my work as a pianist comes from.
Berkshire has a fantastic range of venues and Ive played the piano in many of them.
A lot of my work in the Berkshire area is as a pianist for weddings and I have to be versatile to do this. In fact, I am often requested to play a different genre of music for each part of the wedding day. To explain, classical music is popular for ceremonies, whereas jazz is often requested for the drinks reception. This is frequently followed by gentle background music for the wedding breakfast and livelier music for the evening reception. Fortunately, I play music from many genres including Latin, classical, pop, blues, jazz, rock, and sing-along.
My real speciality is music from the jazz and swing era and my influences are the great pianists from that era. These include great musicians such as Oscar Peterson, Erroll Garner, George Shearing, and Dudley Moore. The type of jazz I play isn’t ultra-modern, as you can hear if you explore the rest of the site. Furthermore, I try and make my music easy on the ear, and I hope that above all, it is entertaining.
I have mentioned the classical music I play for wedding ceremonies, but quite recently I have been hired to play this genre of music for other events. I must say that it is something I enjoy as I started out as a classical pianist before moving on to jazz.
My Work as a Sing-along Pianist in Berkshire
There has been a big surge of interest in hiring me as a sing-along pianist in the Berkshire area. Surprisingly, the old fashioned Cockney pianist is back in vogue. For your information, this surge of interest started around London, Berkshire, Essex, and spread to the rest of the Home Counties and other parts of the UK. I now play the piano for many sing-along events around Berkshire and I find them to be great fun. For these events, I provide all the song sheets, so that all you have to do is just sing along to that honky-tonk piano!
Also, please don’t just stay on this page. The rest of the site contains loads of different styles of piano music and does explain the different services that I can offer.
