Performing as a Pianist in Derbyshire
My name is Eugene Portman and a good proportion of my work as a pianist comes from the Derbyshire region. There are some real beauty spots in the area and an amazing collection of venues to perform in. These venues cater for all types of events, however, it is weddings that most of them specialise in. I play the piano for all types of events around Derbyshire, but weddings are the thing that usually bring me to area.
A lot of the enquiries I receive from Derbyshire are for me as a solo classical pianist. This is usually when couples are looking for specific classical pieces for their ceremony. However, I can provide much more than this, and sometimes I can be hired to play a full evening of classical music.
Although classical piano music is ideal for some events, others require music from different genres. A lot of my work in Derbyshire is for me as a wedding pianist and I have to be versatile in the music I play. To explain, I often have to be able to perform a different style of music for each part of the day. For instance, classical music is often favoured for ceremonies, whereas jazz and swing are extremely popular for drinks receptions. Also, the wedding breakfast would probably need an entirely different style of music to the evening reception. Luckily I enjoy playing music from many genres and I can play Latin, swing, jazz, blues, classical, ragtime, sing-a-long, pop, and rock. Besides weddings, this versatility makes my music suitable for many other kinds of events such as parties, corporate events, art exhibitions, etc.
My main specialty is music from the jazz and swing era, which seems to go down well at most events. To explain, the style of jazz I play isn’t ultra-modern and consists of tunes we all know and love. These were the songs made famous by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennet, Nat King Cole, and Tony Bennet.
I developed my style of jazz piano by listening by such great jazz pianists as Oscar Peterson, Erroll Garner, and George Shearing.
My Work as a Sing-along Pianist in Derbyshire
A recent trend in Derbyshire is the hiring of me as a sing-along pianist. There has been a rising number of pubs and clubs that are hosting sing-along themed events. Besides this, quite a few parties and weddings are introducing an hour’s sing-a-long during the event. I can make things easy by providing all the song sheets so that all you have to do is provide some hearty voices.
Also, please don’t just stay on this page. The rest of the site contains loads of different styles of piano music and does explain the different services that I can offer.
