London: its Pianists and its Venues

London is where most pianists want to perform and they are willing to travel many miles from outside the city to do this. With a population of 8,174,100 London is the UK's largest city and has a vast number of venues. I have played the piano at many of them, but I've only just scratched the surface. Almost every week I find myself performing at a fresh hotel or  an historic building I've never been before. There are many great pianists in London and Middlesex, but the demand for them seems to excede the number of quality musicians available.

Many famous pianists came from London and the Middlesex areas including two of my favourites George Shearing and Ralph Sharon. George Shearing was born in Battersea, London, but his career as a pianist reached dizzying heights when he went to America. Ralph Sharon also made his fortune in the States and his exquisite piano playing can be heard on many Tony Bennett recordings. His musical partnership with Tony Bennett lasted over 40 years.

Playing the Piano for Weddings in London

A lot of people live in London and a lot of people want to get married there. I am often hired as a solo classical pianist for many wedding and civil partnership ceremonies, but I can provide different styles of music for the various parts of your special day.

The Different Styles of Music I Play

I play music from many different genres and I am willing to learn any specific pieces that you may require. The music I play ranges from Bach to Bacharach and Beatles to Adele, but my main passion is music from the jazz era. My influences are pianists like Dudley Moore, Erroll Garner, Ralph Sharon and George Shearing. Besides jazz, classical and pop, I am also occasionaly requested to play sing-a-long  material (especially in the London area) and I can provide song sheets to make your event into a good old 'cockney knees up'. Please visit the sing-a-long page to find out about this and also try exploring the repertoire pages to hear piano music in many different styles.

I am always willing to learn any requests that you may have.

I have performed as a pianist in many London and Middlesex venues. Here are just a few:

The Arts Club, 40 Dover Street, London - Musicians have two very good pianos at there disposal at this very famous venue. They have a gtrand piano upstairs and a nice upright downstairs. I've been hired as a pianist to play at many events in the Arts Club and I always look forward to my next visit.

Dartmouth House, 37 Charles Street - They have a Daneman grand piano upstairs which is usually kept in good condition. Out of all the venues in London, Dartmouth house is the one that I visit the most frequently.

Trafalgar Tavern, Park Row, Greenwich, London - They have a Chang grand piano on site, but I often have to take a digital piano with me so that I can play in the bar area.

Park Inn Heathrow, Bath Road, West Drayton, Middlesex - I've performed here on a few occasions, but I have always had to take my own instrument with me. I don't think that there is a piano in any part of the building

Renaissance London Heathrow Hotel, Bath Rd, Heathrow, Hounslow, Middlesex - Like the above Ive always taken a digital piano with me. To the best of my knowledge I don't think that they own a piano.

Eltham Palace, Eltham - This is a lovely venue and they have quite a nice piano too.

St James Court Hotel, 54 Buckingham Gate, London - I used to to be the resident pianist at this hotel, so it brings back many memories when I visit this venue.

Pitzhanger Manor House, Walpole Park, Mattock Lane, London - I used to play at this venue quite a lot and the piano was always very nice. Unfortunately I haven't been able to do the last few dates that I've been given for this venue.

The Landmark Hotel, 222 Marylebone Road, London - The piano I played here on the last occasion was a nice Kawai grand. I don't know whether it beonged to the hotel or was just hired in for me.

Four Seasons Hotel, Hamilton Place, Park Lane, London - I know for a fact that this venue has more than one piano, but I have only played on the grand piano on the very top floor. I have worked here on a number of occasions and I have met quite a lot of interesting people while doing so. The hotel is considered by many to be the finest in London.

Dulwich College, Dulwich Common - This venue has three pianos, but the best one is definitely the Yamaha grand in the Old Library where ceremonies usually take place. Dulwich College probably provides more pianists with work than any other London venue.

Burgh House, New End Square, Hampstead, London - A pianists paradise. They have a lovely piano that is just dying to be played and I just wish I could play there more often than I do.

Royal Institute Of British Architects, 66 Portland Place - They have a lovely piano upstairs and it is a real pleasure to play. I've was booked as a pianist to  play their recently and as always, it was in beautiful condition.

I am available as a solo classical pianist in London, Middlesex and other areas of the UK.

I can be booked as a pianist for any Christmas party

Christmas Tree

Christmas is upon us again and lots of parties and other festivities have to be planned. I am often hiredas a pianist for Christmas parties - especially in London. Pianists are plentiful in South East England but there are so many parties happening that there is more than enough work for most of them. I am often asked to provide background dinner music, but Christmas often demands music of a more lively nature, and people often like to have a sing song. I  play lots of Christmas songs, but here are just two Christmas song medleys that I can provide song sheets for:

Christmas Sing-along Sheet 1

Away in a Manger
Good Christian Men Rejoice
God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen
Silent Night
I Saw Three Ships
Hark the Herald Angels
O Come All Ye Faithful

Christmas Sing-along Sheet 2

The First Noel
While Shepherds Watched
O Little Town of Bethlehem
Once in Royal David's City
Good King Wenceslas
Ding Dong Merrily on High
We Three Kings of Orient Are

Christmas Sing-along Sheet 3

Deck the Halls
Jingle Bells
The Holly and the Ivy
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
We Wish You a Merry Christmas
The Twelve Days of Christmas

Christmas Sing-along Sheet 4

Winter Wonderland
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
The Christmas Song
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
Frosty the Snowman
Santa Claus is Coming to Town

Baby Grand Piano Shell Hire

 Baby Grand Piano Shell 3

A baby grand piano shell is available for those occasions where a normal digital piano just wouldn’t look quite right. This can be set up in about 45 minutes and it holds a conventional digital piano. A lot of people think that it is a real grand piano when they see it and are surprised when they find out that it is just a shell with a keyboard inside. It only costs an additional £80 for Eugene to bring this piece of equipment with him to an event. That is a small fraction of what it would be to hire a grand piano from a supplier.

There are a few limitations on where Eugene can offer this service, but it is fine for most situations. There are restrictions in Central Hertfordshire and other major cities due to parking problems. Please contact Eugene and he will try and get around any obstacles.
